Ebube Anachebe: Building Bridges One Letter at a Time

“Going to Israel is an experience that I will never forget. It gives me a story.”

Ebube Anachebe, a fourth-year engineering student at University of Calgary, has made her support for Israel and the Jewish people known. Through intentional events as a Passages Campus Fellow to transporting 100+ handwritten letters from Canada to Israel, she is quick to show her support for Israel in meaningful ways.

Ebube was raised in a Christian home where support for Israel was emphasized. As Ebube has continued her education, her love for Israel and the Jewish people has grown. In the wake of October 7th, her urgency to stand against antisemitism has only increased.

In high school, Ebube was required to write an extensive research paper. Through studying various topics related to church history she eventually became interested in studying the history of the Jewish People.

“What struck me was the fact that despite persecution throughout every single century, my research showed that the Jews persisted to exist,” Ebube said. “It was then that God started to stir my heart for the Jewish people, I didn’t really know any and yet, I believe God was preparing my heart.”

After writing this research paper, Ebube was inspired to get involved in the pro-Israel movement on her campus. But after a short amount of time advocating for Israel, she noticed a gap in Christians supporting Israel. Many were not even aware of the need.

“If Christians knew that our Jewish brothers and sisters felt isolated and alone, then we could go out from our churches shine the light of Jesus to these people,” Ebube said.

Instead of simply observing this divide Ebube acted by mobilizing local churches in Canada to write letters to hostage families and IDF soldiers naming the initiative “Letters of Hope.”

“I took these letters with me to Israel to physically deliver them to show the Jewish people that they are not alone and that Christians love and care for them,” she said. “I delivered around 140 cards in total.”

By delivering these letters from Canada she was able to deliver a tangible message of hope from Christians in Canada to Israel. From “Letters of Hope” to presenting on the life of Corrie Ten Boom at her university, Ebube stands as a bridge between Christian and Jewish communities. Her passion for supporting Israel has been enriched by her Passages experience.
“Going to Israel and doing the Campus Fellowship has encouraged me to tell my story, to stand on truth and to not be afraid. It has also encouraged me to bring the story of the Jewish people to more Christians and share with them how God loves the Jewish people so much, and how we are called to love them too,” Ebube said.

Through various life seasons and continued study, her calling to stand with Israel and show support to the Jewish community remains.

“I often get asked why I, an engineering student am dedicating a chunk of my time to advocating for the Jewish people. I do it because it is important, and it felt like God was moving with intention in my life,” Ebube said. “Sometimes, we feel God calling us to make decisions that make no sense, but we must remember that He sees the bigger picture, while we are called to walk in obedience and by faith. I got into Israel Advocacy only a couple months before October 7th had happened, it was when October 7th happened that I realized for all this time that God had been growing my heart for Israel and the Jewish people, it was to prepare me for such a time as this.
